This is the port on the mainland that is directly opposite Zanzibar Town and as such, the shortest dhow ride. It was a large settlement during the Waswahili & Omani Arab rule.

Khoja merchants have lived here for a long time but the earliest record is since 1840's.

Mohamed Dewji, the Editor's Grandfather was born here in 1864.
