The German Colonial Handbook 1903 lists "Moloo Wirji" as one of local Indian firms, dealing in import/export of of some of these goods: ivory, cattle, furs, rhino horns,, hippopotamus, kopra, black corn, corn, rice, sesame, European swap goods, resident in Pangani in 1903. He is listed in the German Colonial Handbook as being still in Pangani in 1908.
According to the oral family history, Moloo Hirji and other Indian traders were persuaded by Captian Tom von Prince, a German officer to settle in the newly colonised area of Tukuyu where he arrived in 1910.
