The German Colonial Handbook 1903 lists "Mohamed Lalji" as one of local Indian firms, dealing in import/export of of some of these goods: ivory, cattle, furs, rhino horns,, hippopotamus, kopra, black corn, corn, rice, sesame, European swap goods, in Pangani in 1903.
He is also listed in German Colonial Handbook 1908 as a merchant, resident in Saadani in 1903
