The founder of the Currimbhoy family was Ebrahimbhoy Pabaney, a leading Mandvi (Kutch) merchant, carrying on extensive business between Kutch, Arabia, Zanzibar and Bombay at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

A wealthy and influential trader, he owned his own vessels for the conveyance of merchandise. His company was called "E.B.Pabaney & Company".

Ebrahimbhai subsequently moved to the growing British Port city of Bombay, where he successfully expanded his ventures in exports to Guangdong, China until his death in 1855.
